Legal Document Assistant
Formerly referred to as independent paralegals, LDAs are experienced professionals authorized by the state to assist with legal document preparation. Authorizations vary by state, and is based on specific training, education history, and continued education requirements. LDAs are not licensed attorneys. LDAs are often commissioned by people who choose to take on the legal arena pro-se, but still want or need help with document preparation — without hiring an attorney.
